Watch out, Washington: The Girls Action Network (GAN) is in town. GAN consists of 10 girls from different Girls Inc. affiliates across the country, who join in video conferences during the year, and discuss how to make change in their communities. Last summer, these girls met for the first time in person, and then met up with legislators. Executive Director Suzanne Parker joined GAN member Evelyn, age 15, to take part in the D.C. trip.

The GAN girls had agreed to focus on three topics—the DREAM Act, gun violence, and sexual harassment. They got together with Senators Elizabeth Warren and Dianne Feinstein, plus Dr. Carla Hayden, the first female and first African American Librarian of Congress. The trip wasn’t all business, though: The girls toured the National Portrait Gallery, the national monuments, and the U.S. Capitol Building. They also gave each other henna tattoos, and had a dance party. It was a capital time in our nation’s capital!
